UNICEF: a good life for every child

A UNICEF's employee is carrying a child.

UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children's lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential.

UNICEF, the United Nations agency for children, works to protect the rights of every child, everywhere, especially the most disadvantaged children and in the toughest places to reach.

We are the world's largest and most influential children's organisation. Across more than 190 countries and territories, we do whatever it takes to help children survive, thrive and fulfil their potential.

A map of the world shows where UNICEF's 127 country offices and 33 National committees are located.

We take care of children's basic needs, such as access to clean water, health, quality education and protection both in times of peace and crisis.

Impartial, non-political and neutral, we focus on reaching every child in need. To accomplish this we work together in partnership with governments, businesses, organisations and citizens.

UNICEF was established in the aftermath of World War II to help children whose lives and futures were at risk. Children in Finland were one the first recipients of UNICEF’s aid

UNICEF in Finland

UNICEF Finland is one of UNICEF's national committees. We work to ensure that child rights are taken into account in society and help to build a child-friendly future in Finland.

In Finland UNICEF does:

  • fundraising for international programming and humanitarian work.
  • communication, that increases understanding of child rights and their realisation in Finland and elsewhere in the world
  • domestic programming and advocacy, that promotes the realisation of children's rights in municipalities and welfare areas, development policy and corporate activities.
  • global education in schools.

UNICEF Finland employs a team of around 70 experts and professionals.
